Freshly Pressed

Now I have your attention.

Thank you!

It does seem to me from a few blog posts I read lately, that WordPress bloggers, seem in general, to be hankering after that prestigious Freshly Pressed moment.

Now, I’m a bit thick.

I had to ask one such blogger (as it was rather unclear to me) if we have to submit posts somewhere to be in contention for Freshly Pressing.

He, kindly, wrote back to me and informed me: No. No submission. Every post that’s written could potentially be FP’d.

Now, I don’t know how it is for other bloggers, but I definitely think that some of the articles I write are of better quality and some are of a worse standard.

What would happen if they picked one of the worse ones?

I would be inundated with a brief moment of popularity and people would think that that worser one is a true and accurate representation of my actual ability.

Shit!?!

  1. That happened to me! On my other non food blog one of the posts got FP’d that I didn’t think was very good. I mean it was OK, but it was more of a photo post and it wasn’t funny or indicative of my actual writing. I was so upset because it didn’t get that many comments and I hardly got any subscribers after that. The time I got Freshly Pressed before that was a good post, and I got tons of comments and lots of subscribers. Sometimes I think the people who choose really don’t know what they are doing!

    1. You see, that’s not what should happen is it? Being FP’d should be an exciting and rewarding experience, not something that upsets.

Congratulations anyway on having been FP’d not once, but twice.

  2. Shit – yes! I didn’t realise any submission had the potential to be freshly pressed (thought they favoured the popular ones, or the ones with advertising) – but yes, wouldn’t it be BAD if they picked you up on a bad day!!

    1. 😀 I must admit, I don’t read them very often. But how they are selected is an interesting question. It’s not possible that they read even a small amount of what must be posted every day.

  3. LOL I headed over to congratulate you and give you a huge hug hahaha. Well, I’ll do it anyway! Congrats on your brain and emotions, because they enable you to write as you do 😀 And a hug, just because schools started again.
As for the Freshly Pressed. You never know why a particular piece grabs the attention of the mods. The posts don’t get picked ad random so there has to be a reason. I’m just happy for the ones who get chosen and hope it’s their masterpiece 🙂

    1. LOL.
      I knew I’d grab your attention. 😉
Thank you so much for your congratulations though (I’m blushing). We still have two weeks of holidays left here (OK one and a half, I keep trying to stretch it out).

I guess a lot of us are our own worst critics and if it was for a post we were not entirely happy with…

    1. Well when it happens to you you’ll know because you’ll have a massive increase in your stats and loads and loads of comments on one particular poem. Most will start “Congratulations on being freshly pressed…” I guess that’s all you really need to know. 😉

  4. When I started WordPress I thought that being FP’d was the ultimate accolade to superb writing and to me at one time it was important that my ‘talent’ should be recognised by the ‘gods’, Now I could not care one iota. When you get FP’d you have loads and loads of comments to read…….. me? I would delete the lot.
Everyone writes according to the type of person they are, some practical, some humourous, and occassionally some boring, some tearful and from some you can tell that somebody has big problems. All are important and that is why I really do think that FP should be abolished.
Everybodies blog has equal importance, some , like me, spend more time doing this than actual living, but that is my choice .It is where I get my pleasure and my communication with my friends.

I agree with all that you say and I will also add that your blog is great..I am really enjoying my visit here

    1. I am so happy to have you commenting on my blog. I think it’s just brilliant that you would delete all the comments. (I really understand why Nancy gave you the award).

Your totally right, of course. Everyone needs an outlet don’t they? My blog is like my therapist. And I love writing. But when I started I had no idea what would actually happen. No idea that I would have such support from people I have never even met.

Thank you so much for your lovely comment!! 🙂

  5. Yep – that happened to me – my one and only post that was FP’ed was about trash, and it was really quite boring 😦 – I guess that’s why the FP’ed choosers have never been back.

  6. You definitely got my attention! Although I’ve been blogging for about three months now, I had NO IDEA what freshly pressed was. Now that I know how random it is all I can say is SHIT!!!

        1. I felt like that the first few times when I thought about it, but now I’ve gone back to being mostly relaxed about it with the odd panicky moment when I’ve actually posted!
